Susan Rust

October 27, 1957 — May 20, 2020

Susan Grace Rust, of Grand Junction, CO. died May, 20th 2020 at her home, after a brief illness.

Susy was born on October, 27th 1957 in Adrian, Michigan, to Edwin and Yvonne Rust. Her family lived in a variety of small towns in Michigan and Ohio before settling in Rochester, Minnesota in 1966. Her father, was an English teacher and her mother was a homemaker.

Susy attended Mayo High School, graduating in 1975. She then enrolled in Rochester Community and Technical College to become an Administrative Assistant. After working in Rochester for several years, she relocated to Seattle, Washington. Susy worked for the City of Seattle for 20 years, before retiring in 2017.
In 2009, Susy married her long-time boyfriend, James "Pete" Owens. They made their home in Tacoma, Washington.  Pete was an Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked as a Park Ranger for the state of Arizona, before relocating to Washington. He was also an artist of colorful and whimsical sculptures.
Susy enjoyed traveling, gardening, arts and crafts, browsing antique shops, and collecting Ceramic Arts Studio figurines. She was a lifelong fan of the band Sawyer Brown.

Susy was preceded in death by her husband, her mother, and her beloved shelter dog, Wilson.

She is survived by her father, Edwin Rust of Rochester; two sisters, Kathryn (Andrew) Booker, of Seattle and Patricia (Michael) Sindt, of Rochester; two brothers, Lawrence, of Red Wing, Minnesota and Timothy, of Rochester; two nieces, and three nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Susy's devoted friend, Gina Gust, who took excellent care of her for the past two years.

At Susan's request there will be no public service. Friends and family who wish to, may make a donation to their favorite animal shelter.
