Shireley Hickox

December 21, 1946 — February 28, 2021

Born December 21, 1946 in Price, Utah to Robert Mackenzie Ames and Ada Marie Wilde, Shireley went home to the Lord on February 28, 2021.

When Shireley was about 3 years old, the family moved from the sawmill site on Deep Creek in the mountains of Utah to downtown Price, so her sister could begin elementary school.  At the age of 4, Shireley's family moved to Spanish Fork, Utah for 1 year, then came to Delta, Colorado where they stayed.

Shireley attended kindergarten and first grade in Spanish Fork, and second grade in the old St. Michael's Catholic School on Grand Avenue in Delta, Colorado; both buildings are still standing today.  The next 6 years were spent in Delta at the junior high and high schools there.  Shireley was very active in student government, National Honor Society, marching band, concert band and received many awards and honors throughout her high school years, including class favorite, student body secretary, Homecoming attendant, Student Body Vice President and flag twirler for the marching band.  While still in high school, Shireley began after school employment at the then Colorado Bank and Trust Company, at the time the only bank in our town.   Also, during that time, two beautiful baby girls (Wendy and Christy) were born to Shireley and her husband, William Sinner.  Both girls graduated from Delta schools and attended college in-state.   Shireley and Bill were later divorced.

After graduation, Shireley remained at the bank for over 20 years, then began her second career employed by the State of Colorado Department of Corrections at Delta, where she was employed for over 6 years.  She later married Bob Hickox; he survives. She also joined the First Church of the Nazarene in Grand Junction and enjoyed her church membership and worship with the membership there amongst God's children.

Shireley enjoyed life and most everything about it. God and family came first and attending church functions as well as making good things for her family and friends to eat were among the joys of her life, keeping house, vacationing and spending holidays and other wonderful times with her family, last but not least sewing, sewing and sewing; particularly unusual quilt designs and beautiful embroidery designs with SEWING embroidery machine.

Shireley is survived by her husband, Bob Hickox, her ex-husband William G. Sinner, her children Wendy Demers (Bill Demers) of Corpus Christi, TX; Christy Sinner of Durango, CO; 2 sisters, Patricia Wagamon of Abilene, TX and Julia Winkler of Arlington, TX; 2 brothers, Robert Ames Jr of Australia.  She was preceded in death by both parents and 1 brother Samuel R. Logan.
