Roger Davis

December 25, 1951 — January 3, 2021

Roger was born to Duane and Margaret Davis on December 25, 1951, in Lamar, CO.  He married Sue “Wright” Davis on May 21, 1977 in Grand Junction.

Roger graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1970.  He attended Mesa Junior College and then Mesa State College.  He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. Throughout his life, Roger worked for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, operated his own business, Environmental & Reclamation Service, was a substitute teacher, and he umpired baseball.

Roger was an avid baseball fan. He coached baseball and spent countless hours volunteering at Monument Little League. He umpired baseball at the high school, college, and competitive adult league levels. He was a loyal JUCO fan, and he loved the Colorado Rockies.  Roger lived and breathed baseball, as this was his true passion in life.

Roger also loved everything about Colorado.  He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin that his dad built in the 1930s, visiting his family in Ordway, CO, and taking drives over the Colorado National Monument and the Grand Mesa. Roger’s passion for Colorado and all it has to offer led him to volunteer his time at the Grand Junction Visitors Center.  He was passionate when it came to telling visitors about the history of Colorado and suggesting places they should visit.  Roger loved spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed going out for coffee and just visiting.  Roger was a very social person, and he knew everyone.  He was never known to sugar coat his words, he spoke his mind, and while he could come across as gruff, he really had a heart of gold.  Roger wanted the best for everyone, and stopped at nothing to help others. He was always rooting for the underdog. All of those who knew Roger, have a Roger story to tell.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents Duane and Margaret Davis, and his wife of 42 years Sue. He is survived by his son Danny (Camille) Davis, grandchildren Kylie, Tyler, and Garrett of Woodland Park, CO; daughter Valerie (Chris) Manspeaker, grandchildren Brooke and Colton of Highlands Ranch, CO; and numerous cousins.
