Maria Mcdonell

Maria Anna McDonell peacefully passed to eternal life on June 14th, 2021 at the age of 89 in Grand Junction, Colorado.  She was born in Bonn, Germany to Adolf Dahs and Katharine (Koch) Dahs.

Maria visited Spokane, WA when she was 23 where she met her husband, John McDonell of Polson, Montana. They settled in many places moving from state to state and even back to Germany where she gave birth to 2 of her 5 children.  The family spent most of their years in Newark, CA, where Maria lived until 2014 when she relocated to Colorado.

Lovingly known as Oma to family and friends, Maria was a strong, outgoing, engaging and inspiring woman.  She loved being a mother and grandmother and traveling to Germany and Montana to see family.  She preferred the outdoors, walking many miles every day, working in her garden, and going on drives with her children.  She also loved music, especially classical with composers like Brahms, Haydn and Strauss.  She inspired kindness, loved to laugh, touched many lives and was loved by all.

She is survived by her five children, Ron, Eric, Raymond, Linda & Kathy, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday June 21st at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson, MT at 1pm and then she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Lakeview Cemetery.
