Katherine Day

August 12, 1938 — April 5, 2020

Katherine Louise (Green) Day, age 81 of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away on April 5, 2020.

Katherine was born August 12, 1938 in Montrose, Colorado. She is survived by her husband - James (Jim) Day of Grand Junction; her brother - Robert (Bob) Green of San Antonio, Texas; her son - Ronald (Ron) Day of Del Norte, Colorado; her daughter - Kim O’Neill of Silt, Colorado; her daughter - Alison Arias of Phoenix, Arizona; her son - Martin (Shawn) Day of Colorado Springs, Colorado, nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Katherine grew up in Eagle County, Colorado and graduated from Eagle County High School.  She put her time and energy into loving and raising her four children and being a big part of their lives. Katherine was able to be close to them as they passed through high school during her time spent working at the school cafeteria. Katherine was also a valued employee in both the Eagle and Garfield County Clerk and Recorder offices.

Katherine had an early interest in nursing and although she did not pursue this interest, she provided an immeasurable amount of care and empathy throughout her lifetime to her family and anyone who needed it. She had a knack for keeping a storehouse of helpful health techniques and remedies which she willingly shared with those she cared about.

Katherine loved outdoor family excursions: camping, fishing, and picnicking as well as traveling with her family. In retirement, she particularly enjoyed a road trip she took to Alaska with Jim. One of her favorite places to visit throughout most of her life was a family cabin, originally constructed by her grandfather, located on Grand Mesa near Grand Junction.

Katherine liked socializing with good friends over coffee. Additionally, she enjoyed her daily trek to Starbucks or a local donut shop with Jim.

Katherine had a special place in her heart for the girls in her family. She delighted in exposing them to cultural experiences that provided them with a sense of what special ladies they were. She helped them learn how it felt to be sophisticated and ladylike while seamlessly bridging the generation gap.

Katherine was a great communicator.  While admirably open to managing the challenges of the digital world, she knew what social networking was way before its electronic version came about. As her family grew and spread out, near and far, she was effective in using all old and new methods available to her in making sure everyone stayed in contact and up to speed on the welfare of family and friends.

Katherine was devoted to her family, immensely enjoying her children, grandkids, and great grandchildren. She loved life, loved people and seemed to know no strangers. She was always putting on her best face and freely giving her most helpful advice and assistance for the benefit of others. She was a glass-half-full type of person who always tried to look and hope for the best in life. Her impact on those whom she touched is her strongest legacy that will continue on through her example as we all try to emulate her kind actions and positive outlook on life. She was a truly inspiring woman and a classy lady. We will miss her deeply.
