James Atchison

July 3, 1951 — May 12, 2020

James E. Atchison Jr. age 68, died May 12, 2020.
He was born July 3, 1951 to the late James E. Atchison Sr and the late Nina Edith Atchison.
Jimmy lived all his life in san Diego, California.  He loved the beach and spent a lot of his time there. He continued to surf until a few years ago. His nephew, Case, said that Uncle Jimmy taught him to surf!
He had his own business called "The Carpenter" for many years. Many occasions he would take a break and come to Colorado to help with a project for his sister, Debby. He was always willing to help anyone who needed him. His nephew and niece recalled a time when they talk to him about work on their house and they said, "he lit up when talking shop!"  When we go to California for a visit, he would always take us to the beach for a picnic or some favorite beach café of his. He loved kids and would sit and play with them. One time while eating lunch with a great, great nephew, he decided he didn't like the food and spit it in Jimmy's hand!  Jimmy just kept his hand open so patiently.  Another great nephew had a memory of helping his great uncle with work and said he was so patient with him and a great teacher!
He was a very simple man and lived his life so. He was remembered as always smiling, very patient and very loved.  He never wanted to impose on anyone and seldom ask for help. In November of 2019, he came to our house (Bob and Debby) to help with a project.  It became very clear that he was quite sick.  We soon discovered that he had a rare autoimmune disease that six months later would take his life. We're so thankful that he was here and we took care of him and thankful for the time we had. The thought of him alone in California going through this is unbearable.
He is preceded in death by James E. Atchison Sr (father)  Nina Edith Atchison (mother) Pamela Sue Boyce (sister).
Survived by Debby (Bob) Pierson of Grand Junction, Colorado , Nicky Brewer (whom he raised for 12 years and considered him a son) Case Atchison (Nephew who he was a father figure to) Bobby, Melanie, Chris, Pat, Matt, Stephanie and many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was a great brother, always looking out for his baby sister. He will be greatly missed.
