Cassandra Mercer

July 26, 1985 — October 17, 2021

Cassandra Rachel Mercer, 36, suddenly passed away October 17, 2021.

Cass was born in Greeley, Colorado on July 26th, 1985 to proud parents, Kristi Gunter and Rob Standen. Cass and her mother moved to Craig, Colorado in 1988 where she grew up and resided until 2021. She was joined in Craig by a little brother, Shawn, who she would influence significantly throughout their lives. Cass spent many summers in Greeley with her dad Rob, Papa and Grandma Buddy and siblings, Michael and Kendra. Later Cass gained another sister and brother, Jordyn and Jacob.

She and her husband of 20 years, Mike Mercer, were involved in many organizations throughout her life. Together, they served the community as part of the Moffat County Search and Rescue for several years. They were also part of the local snow machine club which launched Cass into a passion for snow machining and anything snow-related.

In 2014 she developed Braapchicks Adventures where she led ladies’ snow machine rides and gained many lifelong friends who also became family. Since then, Cass had become a brand ambassador and/or sponsored rider for numerous snow machine companies including but not limited to: Sheshreds.co, DSG Outerwear-Women’s Snow Apparel, Off Road Vixens, TKI CNC, and Extreme Realities which is owned by her “soul sister” Jessica Carter.

During the off-season Cass enjoyed hunting, camping, four-wheeling, off-roading, and street bikes. She recently found a fondness for the lake with Lisa Duda. Cass loved music, especially country music concerts. An annual trip to Country Jam with her mom, Kristi, and friend, Connie Lyster, was a highlight of the summer.

Cass worked for a few companies in her life but gravitated back to her family at AXIS Steel where she worked as an office manager. She valued her time and relationships with the company and customers greatly. The AXIS family was a tremendous support system for Cass, both professionally and personally.

Cass was a firecracker, often referred to as Brat Child. She was unique, in that, she was soft and tender with a love for animals, but also the life of the party. She was generous, kind, loving—a friend to everybody she encountered.

Throughout her life’s journey, Cass was guided by values that she was willing to share with the many people in her life. She had a strong work ethic, always learning new skills and busy working with her hands. She loved all of her family and friends deeply and was always willing to lend her love and support at any time.

Cass was preceded in death by: Papa and Grandma Buddy (Bob and Nola Standen), Grandpa Stan Fisher, Great Grandpa Frank and Great Grandma Glennys Gunter, Grandma Mercer, Grandma Peterson, Grandpa Milton and Grandma Lucy Archuleta, and of course Yoda Beamer and Diamond Cheyenne (Cass and Mike’s beloved fur babies).

Cass is survived by: mom Kristi Gunter, dad Rob Standen (Kristin), Mike Mercer and his parents Roland and Kathy, brother Shawn (Skylar), brother Michael Standen, sister Kendra Butterfield (Brad), sister Jordyn Pearson, brother Jacob Pearson, nieces and nephews Garrett Mercer, Matthew Standen, Kaidence and Kaleb Archuleta, Grandma Barbara Fisher, Grandpa Kenneth Felte (Sheri), Grandpa Peterson, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, her sweet fur babies Avalanche and Braap, and countless friends who she considered family.

The family wishes to express their extreme appreciation to all of the sled family, family, and friends for their outpouring of love and support of our beloved Cass.

Out of an abundance of caution for the numerous people we know would love to honor Cass, we have decided that an outdoor Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022 in Craig, Colorado. Details will be forthcoming.
