Obituary

Yves Christian Gallet, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in Grand Junction, CO, after a battle with cancer. Yves was born to Roger Gallet (a French astrophysicist naval officer) and Christiane Gallet in Freiburg im Breisgau, West Germany, at the close of WWII. He attended a French school in Germany until he was 9 years old. Yves sailed to the US on the Vulcania (the sister ship of the Andrea Doria) with his mother and sisters Dominique and Astrid, arriving on April 4, 1956. His father had arrived a year prior to start working at the National Bureau of Standards (a government Think Tank) in Boulder and, after reuniting, they all went to live there.

Before he was an American citizen, Yves enlisted in the US Army in 1965. He graduated with honors from the US Army Armor Center at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Yves was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War and cherished his off-duty time spent with his grandparents there. After his tour, Yves attended Colorado State University where he studied geological engineering.

In 1973 Yves married his first wife, Chantal, and had two children – Nathalie and Dimitri.

Yves enjoyed a variety of careers: from earning his commercial pilot’s license, to working internationally in the oil and gas industry, owning and operating the Blue Mountain ski property in Monticello, Utah, and, after moving to Grand Junction, creating his foundation repair company – Stabilization Technology.

In 1998 Yves married Linda. They shared 28 years of life, love, and escapades. Their partnership was a lively one.

Yves was adventurous. As a young adult, he loved rock climbing and skiing the foothills of Boulder. In fact, Yves became a member of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Team. These experiences instilled in him a thirst for many adventures as an adult: sailing, rafting the Colorado River, camping in many National Parks, and enjoying cruises with his wife, Linda. Yves felt best when outdoors in nature.

Yves valued hard work and imagination. He believed in taking a risk. He often said, “Your limitations are from a lack of imagination.” Yves allowed his imagination to lead him into many life adventures. He accepted the misadventures as lessons along the way.

Yves possessed a creative mind and skilled hands. He loved nothing more than to build, using his practical talents. The cabin he built on Glade Park, and the “Sunset House” and pond in their backyard continue to remind Linda of Yves’ love. He created a special spot to be in nature together and witness God’s creation in their corner of the world.

Yves is survived by his wife Linda, his sister Astrid Gallet Lerario (Carl), his daughter Nathalie Hardgrove (Phil) and granddaughter Josephine Hardgrove, his son Dimitri Gallet (Sophia); his 3 step children: Heather Browning (Brian), Amy Hillman (Jason), and Jacob Harbron, and many other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Dominique Gallet Shanklin.

A memorial service for Yves will be held Friday, November 6 at 1:00pm, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 790 26 ½ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506. Following Mass there will be a military ceremony at 3:00pm, at the VA Cemetery under the Committal Pavilion, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO 81501.

The Gallet family hold heartfelt thanks to staff and doctors at the

VA Hospital, St. Mary’s Oncology Center, and Hope West Hospice, Grand Junction, CO.
