Valere Eileen Hoisington passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2026, just a couple weeks shy of her 71st birthday.
Valere was born in Denver, CO on November 15, 1955, to James and Dixie Folsom. The oldest of four girls, her sisters looked up to her. Growing up, she was involved in her church and participated in singing competitions; she was a great storyteller; and she set the example for her little sisters. The family moved to Grand Junction in 1965, where she graduated from Fruita Monument High School in 1974.
She married the love of her life, Dirk Hoisington, a few months later, on August 10, 1974. He was her high school sweetheart and her "superman" - she felt it was an honor and a privilege to become a Hoisington. They settled in Loma, CO and built a beautiful life together, recently celebrating their 52nd anniversary. With Dirk, she raised four boys, Jesse, Jarad, Matt, and Dustin. Her sons (and their growing families) were her greatest pride and joy.
Valere, known to her students as Mrs. Val or Mrs. Hoisington, worked in elementary and special education for nearly 30 years. She made an impact on the lives of so many children over the years and was beloved by all. She retired from the school district in 2017.
Outside of work, Val found happiness in spending time with her large family (which included many grandchildren and great grandchildren), watching kids' events, watching the Broncos and Rockies, enjoying a Diet Pepsi/Coke, and watching a good show. She also played in softball and volleyball leagues.
Val was truly one of a kind. She had a smile that lit up the room and her compassion for people made them feel special, even if she had just met them. Her strong faith was evident in the person she was and how she treated others. She always wanted everyone to feel included and accepted. She radiated joy; she was not only kind, but also fun, goofy, and playful.
Val was preceded in death by her father, James Folsom; father-in-law, Art Hoisington; brother-in-law, Mark Odelberg; and sister-in-law, Jackie Hoisington. Survivors include her loving husband, Dirk; sons, Jesse (Crystal), Jarad (Morgan), Matt (Kelsey), and Dustin (Tiffaney); grandchildren, Mason (Danzi), Savannah (Noah) Peerman, Ryland (Kylynn), Leila, Hazel, Cyndel, Jeremiah, Cade, Izzy, Maggie, Bella, and Evy; great grandchildren, Harper, Roan, and Josie; mother, Dixie Folsom; sisters, Stephanie Odelberg, Terry (Rich) Rounds, and Cindy (John) Delarosa; mother-in-law, Donna Hoisington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chuck Hoisington, Nancy Hoisington, Luci (Tom) Wood, Kristi (Ty) Harrison, and Greg Hoisington; many nieces and nephews, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 11:00am at Stillwater Cowboy Church, 968 19 Rd, Fruita, CO. A reception will follow at Fruita Faith Baptist Church, 180 S Elm St, Fruita, CO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Stillwater Cowboy Church.
