Tyron Lofton

January 5, 1977 — October 5, 2022

Tyron “T-Dawg, Coach T” Lofton left this earth to be with his heavenly father on October 5, 2022, with his wife, children, and immediate family by his side. He was 45 years old. Those who knew him have no doubt he went through those golden gates with his infectious smile.

Tyron was born on January 5, 1977, in Grand Junction Colorado. He attended school in the valley and was a “junkyard dawg” of the Palisade High School Football team, playing multiple positions. He later went on to play defensive tackle for the semi-pro Grand Junction Gladiators football team. He attended college at Abilene Christian University where he met the love of his life, Dorie Peterson. Tyron and Dorie were married May 31, 2003, and celebrated their 19th anniversary this year.

Tyron held various positions throughout his life. He was a member of the Bookcliff Barbershop Choir, Partners Program, Salvation Army and Colorado Corps. Tyron worked at Westfall Odell and his final position was at Alcan Springs.

He was passionate about his work with youth and coached Palisade Little Dawgs Wrestling, as well as Grand Valley Youth Football teams including the Cardinals, Chiefs, Rams & Packers. Tyron was no stranger and would not shy away from helping children in need, that’s what his mentees will remember most about him, a great supportive honorable man of his word and faith.

Tyron’s bright smile would light up wherever he went. He was most happy off-roading, being out in the Colorado mountains camping, watching the Denver Broncos win or lose, watching his children & supporting them in any asset they applied themselves to. Tyron was most known for his boisterous laugh and singing acapella whether someone wanted to hear him or not.

Tyron is survived by his beautiful wife Dorie, their children Abreail & Mathias, his mother Belinda Nicholson, sisters Anona Lofton and Tamika Perry, his in-laws Barbara & Terry Peterson, his other parents, Kay & Ray Gehrett, his brothers Dustin & Brint Gehrett, Damon, Skylar and Trevor Rigdon, his Brothers-in-law Sean Huber and James Peterson, his nephews Cebastien Lofton and Aaron Peterson, nieces Olivia Lofton- Huber and Abi Peterson. Individuals that were his “chosen family” are Sheryl Hopper, his football family of “Dawgs & Gladiators”, his “Blazer Bash” family, as well as many friends and family, as there are so many that meant so much to him.

Tyron was preceded in death by his mentor at Partners, Don and his childhood friend Matt as well as many friends and classmates he lost along the years.

A celebration of life in his honor will take place on Saturday October 8, 2022, at 10am at Church of Christ 2893 Patterson Road in Grand Junction. Cremation has already taken place. A gofundme account has been opened to offset the medical expenses for his family, please donate to http://gofund.me/e6ae265d
