Steve and Bobbi Miller

Steven “Steve” Miller died at the age of 78 on March 19, 2024 at his home in Glade Park, Colorado. His beloved wife of 58 years, Roberta “Bobbi” Miller was at his side. Bobbi passed away five months later at the age of 75 on August 14, 2024. They are survived by their nieces Stephanie (m. Matt) and Cindy (m. Chris), and their Great-nieces Lara, Hailey, Audrey and Great-nephew Daniel. Steve is also survived by his mother Evelyn and his sisters Sharyn (m. Steve) and Randee, and his niece, Whitney.

Steve was born in Paterson, New Jersey on August 27, 1945 and was raised in New York City. He received his undergraduate degree in 1968 at the University of Florida in Gainesville and earned his Master of Architecture from Ohio State University.

Bobbi was born in New York City on November 25, 1948. She attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and earned her BA in journalism from Ohio State University. Subsequently, she earned her Master of Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Steve and Bobbi met at the University of Florida. This was the start of a remarkable partnership in love, adventure, service, great meals and the pursuit of “a life well lived.” After a few years working in New York City, they decided to travel across Europe in a Volkswagen van (and later on bicycles), then ultimately settled in Colorado. They first moved to Denver, then Palisade, and finally settled in Glade Park where they fell in love with the beauty of the landscape and the kindness of the people. Steve and Bobbi were founding members of the Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department and pillars of the community. While in Glade Park, Steve pursued his building projects, including the large telescope atop a four-story log tower that has become a local landmark. Bobbi taught Spanish at the Glade Park School and English as a second language at Mesa State and Mesa County Library. They loved their life in Colorado, but also regularly traveled to Florida (their second home) and Europe where they helped raise their nieces.

Steve was known for his sense of adventure, creativity, and constant willingness to help everyone he met – a neighbor or a stranger. His warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew or met him, along with his quick and hearty laugh, and the twinkle in his eye when he heard about a “piece”—old or new—that was suddenly available to be used in his latest project (including but not limited to retired railway cars, bridges and towers). He was a constant, loving presence to his family and friends near and far, demonstrated by his deep and genuine interest in their lives.

Bobbi was known for her sense of adventure, curiosity, kind heart, love of learning, and being an excellent teacher. Whether she was helping children learn Spanish, adults learn English, or her nieces learn about life, she always taught with an enthusiasm that made learning fun. Passionate about great food, Bobbi was always willing to take long detours on their many road trips to pursue a promising, undiscovered culinary experience. Her friends and family delighted in Bobbi’s exuberance, quick wit and passion for life.
