Sierra Perkins

January 7, 1999 — December 20, 2022

Our beloved Sierra Jean Perkins, 23, of Montrose Colorado died in a car accident late Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

Born January 7, 1999, Sierra was a loving mother to her 14-month-old daughter Aspen Rae Lee Lasher. Sierra was engaged and planning a beautiful summer wedding on the Mesa to Zachary Lasher (Montrose) in 2023.

Sierra grew up in Illinois, Florida and Montrose Colorado.  She graduated from Montrose High School 2017, attended Johnson University Knoxville TN and was currently working towards her Business Degree at CMU Montrose.

Sierra was a sweet, kind woman who loved Jesus, her family and friends.  Despite hardships throughout her life, she was tenderhearted, kind, full of mercy and grace that was also tempered with tenacity and perseverance.  During her middle and high school years, Sierra volunteered endless hours babysitting, teaching Sunday School and caring for “littles” in the nursery at Grace Community Church (Montrose Co).  She was a pastor’s intern there one summer as well.  Sierra had a passion for serving children in need, went on a mission trip to Mexico and for a time wanted to be a missionary in Africa and China.  She loved a previous job as a Barista and hoped to do that again one day.  Sierra loved adventure, the mountains, the Mesa, camping, elephants, orchids and Christmas.

Sierra was preceded in death by her mom Honey Rae Waters of Port Orange Florida, great grandfathers Leo V Rasmusson & Charles Goering (Illinois) and great, great, grandfather Harry J Petersen (Illinois).

Sierra is survived by her daughter Aspen and fiancé Zachary Lasher (Montrose Co), her father Nathan (Erica) Slaughter of Georgia, her loving sister Sabrina Slaughter (Mississippi), grandmothers Dawn (Bob) McNair (Colorado) and Wendy Peterson (Illinois), uncle Joshua (Amber) Slaughter (Illinois), aunts Arielle Martinez (Illinois) and Megan Foster (Florida), great aunt Lynette Ebbert (Georgia), great uncles Leo (Mary) Rasmusson (Colorado) and Garth (Amber) Rasmusson (Tennessee), great grandma Nancy Goering (Georgia), many cousins including Alyssa, Xaivier, Malaki Slaughter (Illinois), Selina (Gregory) Chancy, Ezra, Darla, Teddy (Georgia), Kiersten (Shariff) Martin, Noah, Benji, Eleanor (Georgia), Daniel O’Leary (Georgia), Keegan O’Leary (Georgia), Miah Rasmusson (Colorado), Caleb Rasmusson (Tennessee).  Sierra was close to so many of her extended family especially Lin McCullough and her children and grandchildren (Colorado) as well as her future in-laws, Misty (Toby Steen) Lasher Brant (Colorado) sister-in-law Roquela (Brandon) Collins (Texas), brother-in-law Wyatt Brant (son Kaine Brant), grandma Lori (Dan) Maguire and grandpa Roque Lasher (all of Colorado).

Sierra was loved by and touched so many lives in our community.  We are comforted by our memories of her and the knowledge that she is in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus waiting for us in heaven.
