Shane Mathew Smith

Shane Smith of Snowmass, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2024, at the age of 56. He left us far too soon. 

Shane grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and attended college at Florida State University before moving to Colorado 30 years ago, where he found the perfect playground for his adventurous spirit and love of the great outdoors. 

In no time, Shane found his place in the community. He worked hard and found success in property and golf course management, making countless friends along the way. A skilled athlete from a young age, Shane enjoyed all sports—baseball, football, golf, tennis, skiing, and snowboarding. Shane's one-of-a-kind personality was defined by humor, positivity, and, above all, a genuine care for others. If you were lucky enough to know him, you’ll remember how he could brighten anyone’s day with a smile and a joke. 

His infectious spirit and joy for life were truly contagious. His absence will be deeply felt by his family and all those whose lives he touched.  

Shane was preceded in death by his parents, Marty and Diane Smith of St. Augustine, FL. He is survived by his brother, Marty Smith of Basalt, CO; his sisters, Marcia Smith and Christine Smith of St. Augustine, FL; his niece, Maggie Smith; and his nephew, Shane Smith. They will carry his memory with them always. 

When you think of Shane, please do so with a smile. He would like that. 

A Celebration of Shane’s Life will be held in Aspen, Colorado at the Red Mountain Grill at the Aspen Municipal Golf Course on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
