Scott James Whiteman, age 35, died peacefully at HopeWest on January 17, 2026. Scott was born on February 28, 1990 in Grand Junction, CO to Mike and Debbie Whiteman. Scott graduated from Central High School in 2008 and went on to graduate from Colorado Mesa University with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Psychology. While going to college, Scott worked for Hilltop Community Resources as a Youth Coach helping children from all ages. After graduating from CMU, Scott worked for Mesa County Human Services in Child Protection for over 3 years helping numerous children live in safe, loving homes. For the past 6 years, Scott has worked for Rocky Mountain Human Services as a Veteran Support Specialist securing homes for homeless or nearly homeless veterans. He relayed so many times how impressed he was with the veterans he worked with to secure housing that they were all so rewarding to work with, respectful and very grateful. If he could tell all the veterans here today, "Thank you for your service," he would.
When Scott was not working helping people of all ages, he was on the golf course, a passion he developed at an early age from his Uncle, Ed Davis. He has even gotten two hole in ones. Scott also learned to play the drums at age 7, winning several "People's Choice Awards" in local talent contests. He continued this second passion his whole life also.
You go to heaven because God chooses you based on the good you have done here on earth treating others with kindness, support, respect, and making their lives better. We believe with all the good Scott did in his very short life, he has a front row seat in heaven because he was so kind to others of all ages and helped to improve their lives in so many ways.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents and his sister, Teresa. Scott is survived by his parents, Mike and Debbie, his sisters Angie (Gary) Fenton and Stephanie (Caleb) Voorhees, his niece and nephews, Isabelle and Brooks Voorhees and Travis Tullio.
A service for Scott will be on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 3 P.M. at the Clifton Christian Church, 3241 F ¼ Road, Clifton, CO.In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his nonprofit organization that he worked for; Rocky Mountain Human Services located at 9900 E Iliff Ave. | Denver, CO 80231 in the Homes For All Veterans program, or to a charity of your choice.
