Obituary

Roy Frederick Trice passed away peacefully in his home on June 23, 2026, in Grand Junction, Colorado at the age of 97.

Roy was born January 19, 1929, in Snyder, Texas, to Jeff Frederick Trice and Mary Ceora Head Trice. Roy was an only child. He worked at various jobs at the family business in Snyder growing up. He graduated from Snyder High School where he played left tackle from 1945 to 1947. Roy married Roberta Joyce Mezo on May 28, 1950 in Sweetwater, Texas. Roy then joined the Texas National Guard in 1951. They moved to New Mexico where Roy would begin his career in the oilfield. Roy and Joyce had 7 children. Kathy Lynn Richardson, Mary Jean Trice (passed at one day old), Roy Frederick Trice Jr, Joyce Ann Boyce, James David Trice and twins Lisa Vasquez and Lawrence Wayne Trice. His wife Roberta Joyce passed away in 1990. In 1992, Roy married Zealtha Moore in Grand Junction, Colorado, and gained another daughter, Vickie Sue Claybaugh. Roy worked in the oilfield the majority of his life, a fact he was immensely proud of. He worked in Louisiana, offshore in the Gulf, Brazil and ended his career in Rifle, Colorado with Cascade Gas.

Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce; his second wife, Zealtha; his daughter, Mary; and two sons, Rick (Roy Jr) and Jay (James) and one great grandchild.

Roy is survived by son Lawrence; daughters Kathy, Joyce Ann, Lisa and step-daughter, Vickie, many grandchildren and favorite cousin, Peggy Vernon. Roy had many grandchildren, but was blessed to live close to grandson, Brian, who he absolutely cherished. Brian was always willing to help Roy with anything he needed. Brian with his father, Lawrence, cared for Roy during his final days.

Roy had a long and productive life. We will miss him forever.

Brown's Mortuary in Grand Junction will assist in taking care of Roy and transporting him to Texas. Bell-Cupert-Seale funeral home in Snyder, Texas, will then assist in placing Roy next to his first wife, Joyce.
