Rosalee Holton

January 31, 1932 — April 18, 2022

Rosalee Holton, age 90, passed away peacefully at home with her son and family by her side.
She was born Rosalee DeMoss, on January 31st, 1932 in Mexico, Missouri the eldest child and daughter of Merle DeMoss Sr. and Mary Dru Crews. When she was young her family moved to Hotchkiss Colorado where she grew up. Rosalee graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1950 and then went to Mesa State College for two years and received an associate’s degree in the arts. She returned to Hotchkiss and married James Leon Holton Jr. in 1954. She then attended school at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado where she completed her education with a degree in education in 1957.
After graduating and with a new son, James Leon Holton, III, she moved with her husband James to Monte Vista, Colorado. She then moved with her husband and child to Sterling, Colorado. After several years and another son, Geoffry Edward Holton. they moved their family back to the Western Slope to be near family. With the arrival of their third son, John Lee Holton, they decided they’d had enough moving and they decided to settle their family in Grand Junction, Colorado. Later on in life she taught school on the Navajo Reservation in Kayenta, Arizona for several years.
Rosalee enjoyed the outdoors and loved writing books. She also enjoyed music, dancing, bridge, pinochle, fishing, hiking, and traveling. Her focus was always on taking care of her husband and three sons. Rosalee was a devote Christian and member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church and attended regularly.
Rosalee is preceded in death by her husband James Leon Holton Jr. of 67 years and two of her sons James Leon Holton III and Geoffry Edward Holton. She is also preceded in death by her two younger brothers John DeMoss and Merle DeMoss
Rosalee is survived by her son John Lee Holton (Ayumi) and their three children-son, Kai Luke, and daughters, Kia and Tiyala. Eldest grandchild James L. Holton IV (Kelley) and their children Novalee, James, and Jubilee. Second eldest grandchild, Richard Tayne Holton. Her sister Terrill Ann Rutter, Niece, Andrea Hunt (Todd) and many loving nieces and nephews, and grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is also survived by her brother in-laws Edward Holton of Montrose and Denver, and his daughter Debra McQueen. Tilmon “Piper” Holton of California and Montana, and his daughters, Carrie Morris (Chris) of California and Tracy Stevens (Dave) of Montana.

Graveside services will be held at Hotchkiss Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss on Saturday, April 30th, at 2:00 p.m.  Address: 33585 J 80 Rd, Hotchkiss, CO 81419

Arrangements are under the care of Brown's Cremation & Funeral Service.
