Michael “Doc” King, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025 in his home at the age of 67.
Michael grew up in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Pembroke Country Day School in 1976. That fall he moved to Colorado where he attended CU Boulder and the Denver Institute of Technology. His work ethic was unbeatable. An entrepreneur by nature, he owned and operated multiple businesses during his career. He earned his nickname “Doc” through his first business, The Circuit Doctors, which operated in Frisco, CO. The name stuck with him for the rest of his life.
In 1999 he met his “Queen” Laurie. He was the King and always referred to her jokingly as his “Queen”. Michael had a passion for hobbies like slapping a handball, conversing with friends around the globe using his ham radio, and speaking at Toastmasters. He was kind, funny, intelligent and stubborn to the end. His friendships with others ran deep and he had numerous lifelong friends that he loved like brothers. His faith in the Lord was strong and guided his daily thoughts and actions. Michael’s light and presence were taken too soon, but his memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Michael will be missed by his wife Laurie, sister Pam (Wally) Erbes, sons Dennis (Kelli) King, Tyler Hafemann, Trevor (Kaitlyn) King, and nephew Rex Erbes. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rose King.
Michael’s family invites friends and relatives to his memorial on Friday, June 6 at Brown’s Cremation & Funeral Service. Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Michael lived his life in full color and had a love for Hawaiian shirts, so we ask that you honor him by wearing one if you’d like. He would love it!
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider a donation to the Grand Junction Elks Lodge #575, 249 S. 4th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
