Ricky Beaty

June 30, 1955 — September 2, 2014

On the afternoon of September 2, 2014, Rich Beaty passed away doing one of the things he loved most, rafting on the Gunnison River. Rick was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on June 30, 1955. He was the only child of James and Jody Beaty. Rick graduated from Central High School in Grand Junction in 1974. After graduation he entered the US Air Force. In 1975 he married Peggy Theisen. They had two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Megan. He also had an awesome grandson, Cory Beaty. After returning from the military, Rick worked in western Colorado in the oil industry. He then found his real passion, helping other people. He began working as an EMT and paramedic, eventually going to work for the Grand Junction Fire Department. He filled numerous positions for the Fire Department working there for more than 20 years, 11 of which were as Chief. He retired in 2006. His leadership at the GJFD has been credited with monumentally impacting the way the Grand Junction Fire Department works today. Rick was a multi-talented man who was always expanding his body of knowledge. He obtained his BS in Buysiness Management. He held numerous certifications and endorsements. His latest was attending the Cook Street School of Culinary Arts. He used his culinary ability to entertain everyone around him. He served as head chef at the Bon Ton Restaurant in Ouray, Colorado and recently sous-chef at Naggy McGees. He loved everything outdoors including fishing, hiking and spending time on the river. Above all else, he loved his daughters and grandson. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that donations be made to the Mesa County Search and Rescue: P.O. Box 2251, Grand Junction, CO 81502.
