Richard L. Sanchez passed peacefully from this life and into the safe and loving arms of Christ on March 13, 2024. Though Richard had no surviving family members, he had many friends whom he considered his family.
Richard was an outgoing, friendly person who enjoyed being in the company of people. He had a very welcoming spirit; no one was ever a stranger. His favorite pastime was to go to the Shell station near his apartment each day to have coffee with "his girls." He always had a new story to tell and loved to share in the company of whoever would listen. Richard would always say "Mi Casa es Su Casa." This expression would become his claim to fame among his closest and dearest friends.
Richard was a cook by vocation and was most proud of the years he spent cooking at many of the casino buffets in Las Vegas. Upon moving to Grand Junction, he spent time working at several restaurants in town.
Richard was a memorable and much loved resident at Catholic Outreach's St. Benedict Place for 11 years. The last year of his life was spent at The Residence Assisted Living Facility in Grand Junction. Many thanks to the loving staff who tended and watched over Richard during his time there. Also, much gratitude to HopeWest Hospice for their excellent care of Richard during his final days.
A remembrance gathering in Richard's honor will be held on Monday, April 15th at 1:30 p.m. Location will be at St. Benedict's Place, 227 White Avenue. For those interested in attending, please call Carla at Catholic Outreach {970) 241-3658 ext. 104 for more information.
