Patricia Louise (Binford) Balkenbush, 83, of Fruita, Colorado, passed away on May 1, surrounded by her family, after courageously facing Glioblastoma for nearly eight years. Born on November 5, 1942, to Dr. Harold and Alma Binford, Pat grew up in Gunnison, Colorado, where she met the boy across the alley—Dave—who would become the love of her life.

Dave and Pat were married in 1962 beginning a lifelong adventure that would last over 63 years. After graduating from Western State, Pat and Dave spent three years in Phoenix and then a decade in Southern California. It was during their California years that they welcomed their children, Leah (Copeland) and Davey, before moving back to Colorado in 1977 to raise their family.

Pat earned her Master’s degree in Elementary education and dedicated 30 years of teaching in both Arizona and Grand Junction. She was deeply committed to her students and left a lasting impact on countless young lives.

Pat treasured her friendships, including those formed through her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She embraced an adventurous spirit—snow skiing, water skiing, river rafting, traveling, playing golf, and even riding a dirt bike for a time (Dave dragged her into that). She and Dave made more than 100 trips to Lake Powell and enjoyed many memorable weekends with the Aardvark group. Her most cherished moments were those spent with Dave and their family at their cabin near Crested Butte.

Pat is survived by husband Dave, daughter Leah Copeland (Mitch), and son Dave Balkenbush (Tiffany). Brother Dick Binford (Betty). Along with grandchildren, Chelsea (Rhett), Gage (Kassidy), Chase (Lauren), Sierra (Jarrett), Nathan, Connor, Kara (Shawn), and Kaci (Christian). As well as great grandchildren, Cooper, Jade, Blakely, and Jolynn.
