Norma Jean Hovet

Norma (Jean) Hovet January 24, 1941 – August 15, 2026

Norma Jean Hovet, 85, of Fruita, Colorado passed away August 15, 2026. Jean was born to Wesley and Flora Doney on January 24, 1941, in Las Animas, Colorado. In 1962 she married Ray Andis. She had three boys, Wilbur (Willy), Allen (Smiley) and Wesley (Buster).

Jean achieved a teaching master’s degree in the early 70’s, she taught school in Vineland Middle School and later moved to County High School east of Pueblo. In 1977 Jean married Jim Hovet and moved to Fruita, Colorado, where she taught at Shelledy Elementary. She owned a liquor store and kept the books for Jim’s backhoe service. During her teaching career she was awarded Teacher of the Year award. Jean enjoyed quilting, sewing and harassing Jim.

Jean is proceeded in death by her parents, brother’s Bill Harrison, Bob Doney, sister’s Glenda Culver, Nita Brewer, Son Allen Hovet, Grandson AJ Hovet and Granddaughter Michaela Andis.

Jean is survived by husband Jim, son’s Wilbur (Mindy) Andis and Wesley (Becky) Hovet, grandchildren Cody Hovet, Katie Hovet, Matthew Hovet and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be planned for a later date.
