Michael Kohl

May 13, 1940 — December 9, 2022

Michael Leroy Kohl passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9, 2022. Born May 13, 1940 in Aztec, New Mexico, to Leroy and Ethelyn Kohl.

He graduated from Norwood High School, CO, attended college in Durango and went on to Barber College. During this time he married Beverly Brasier (later divorced). To this union/ Dana (Melissa), Christopher, and Michelle (Ivan) were born.

While a barber, a friend suggested he apply to the Colorado State Patrol.

Mike began his career with the Patrol April 1966 and came to know pretty much every road in Colorado. In 1977 he was transferred to the Governor's Security Detail. He provided security for Governors John Love, John Vanderhoof, Richard Lamn, Roy Romer, and members of the Colorado General Assembly. He was promoted to Technician with the State Patrol in January 1991. During this time, Mike also trained with the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators. He retired in 1992 with over 27 years of service.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Leilani, whom he married in 1986. Included in this blended family were Jerry (Ruth), Lori (Dave), Kathy and Deanna. Also survived by sisters Barbara and Rebecca, numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mike is remembered as a most loving and caring person who told great stories, enjoyed square dancing and loved traveling and camping with his sweetheart, Leilani, and friends. Mike publicly was dedicated to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Gideons International, thru which he distributed hundreds of copies of God's word in many locations. Mike was a prayer warrior, daily lifting up the needs of others to the Lord.

Celebration of Life for Mike Kohl will be March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Canyon View Vineyard Church Chapel, 736 24 ½ Rd, Grand Junction. Please consider making a memorial contribution in Mike's name to Gideons Int., P.O. Box 3762, Grand Junction, co 81502-3763
