Maureen McClanahan

April 13, 1949 — July 11, 2023

Maureen McClanahan, age 74 died July 11, 2023 following a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).   Born April 13, 1949 in Trinidad Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Kenneth Jaap.  She graduated from Ranum High School in 1967, then earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.   She married Charles McClanahan in 1972, and together they had two children Kip and Erin.   She went on to graduate with her Master's Degree in Literacy, from Lesley College while working full time as a teacher and raising two children. Maureen taught in Adams County School District 50 for over 30 years, with the majority of those years teaching second grade, her true passion.   Maureen was an active member of multiple teaching associations, such as CEA (Colorado Eduation Association) and WEA (Westminster Education Association).  Maureen's passion for teaching was truly inspiring and could be seen by the number of children who would come back to visit her year after year, and invite her to their graduations.   During her life she was a parishioner at Nativity of Our Lord in Broomfield, CO.   She actively volunteered cooking meals for church events.  Throughout Maureen's life she enjoyed football, Siamese cats, reading, fishing, and traveling, especially cruising.  Maureen's favorite color was purple, which she wore routinely on her nails for the last years of her life.   Maureen's travels in retirement took her to places around the world she never dreamed she'd see. Her favorite places were Italy, Aruba, and Paris, France.   Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Kenneth Jaap.  Maureen is survived by her children Kip and his wife Kim, Erin and her husband Geof, her sister Bertie and her husband Jim, her sister Margaret and her husband Gene, numerous neices, nephews, grandchildren and great grand children, as well as so many friends and colleagues.  Maureen's services will be July 28th at 9:00am, at Mount Olivet ( 12801 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033).
