It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Matthew on June 16, 2025 after a long illness. He left us for Heaven, to dance in the streets with abandon... something he was always a little too serious to do here on Earth.
Born Matthew Robert Halterman to parents, Robert and Janice Halterman in Grand Junction on September 19th, 1981. He grew up in Fruita and graduated proudly with his class in 2000. Bob & Janice worked tirelessly to instill in Matthew a resilience and adaptability that created a solid work ethic that Matt carried with him all his life. Matt was warm and kind and funny. His charm was unmatched and his wit could be both dangerous and endearing. He was often soft spoken, but his laugh was explosive and infectious, memorable to all who knew him.
He was a fun loving, thoughtful man... wicked smart, with limitless talents. A born problem solver, he tended to be the guy everyone looked to for advice. Matt wore many hats, all with superb skill, but the hat he liked the best, was family. He met the love of his life, Brandi Lee in 2005 and became an instant father to her three year old daughter. He loved and protected Elayshia Lee like she was always his own. Matt and Brandi were married in June of 2008. Their son, Griffen Michael Halterman was born later that year. Matty was an amazing father and an incredible husband-his utter devotion to his wife was unprecedented and she will mourn him for all eternity.
In addition to his wife and children, Matthew is survived by his truest soulmate, a giant bulldog named Angus, his loving mother Janice, adoring sister, Tawny Halterman, both of Fruita, CO. His beloved grandmother, JoAn Fargerlund, his favorite Aunt Pam (Glen) Gribas, his Uncle David (Suzanne) Cloud, all of California. He is grieved, as well by all of his in-laws, as they were particularly fond of him... and many dear friends too numerous to list.
Greeting him upon arrival in Heaven were his grandfather Frank Fargerlund, Grandma Cathy and his father Bob Halterman. He found them waiting with open arms, eager to welcome him Home.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future. All will be welcome! Bring a chair, and a memory. We'll laugh and cry and reminisce and show our deepest gratitude for the many ways Matt enriched our lives.
