Mary H Verdieck

January 29, 1949 — February 6, 2024

Mary was born in Ontario, Oregon, the second child of Dale and Phyllis Hollingsworth, and spent her early days in eastern Oregon and Boise, Idaho. Her family moved to Grand Junction in 1957 where Mary attended St Joseph’s grade school and Grand Junction High School. Some of Mary’s favorite memories were playing the flute in the Tiger Band, skiing, working at Gene Taylors, and spending summers in McCall, Idaho at family reunions.

Mary attended Mesa Junior College where she met Jim Verdieck, then Northern Arizona University and Mesa State College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Mary and Jim were married on the island of Crete, Greece in 1971 where Jim was stationed in the Air Force before eventually returning to Colorado.

Mary enjoyed her many years at Colorado Public Radio at their office on Main Street. Other interests included the Botanical Gardens, Desert Vista
Garden Club, Camaraderie, Juco Baseball committee, and the Gatsby social group.

Mary had a gift for home decorating, and her home was always ready for
the next holiday. Nieces and nephews knew her as “Aunt Mimi.” She had many friends in Grand Junction and considered them all as special. She will certainly be missed but never forgotten.

Mary is survived by husband Jim, children Anne Linger (Jason) and John Verdieck (Michelle, Ben, and Sebastian), and siblings Anne Connolly (Jack), Jim Hollingsworth (Cathy), Janet Hollingsworth, and John Hollingsworth.

Memorial service will be 11am on Tuesday February 20 at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Church, with a reception following.
Memorial contributions would be welcome in her name to Colorado Public Radio or the
Grand Junction Symphony.
