Mary Pat Arnold

Mary Pat “Patti” Arnold 67, of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away October 11, 2025, in her home. Patti was born in Brookfield, Mo, to John E and Shirley J Arnold on May 21, 1958. Soon after she was born, the family moved to Overland Park, KS.

From a young age, Patti loved to read, write and play sports. Patti also loved dogs and spoiling them! She earned letters in softball and swimming at Shawnee Mission West High School. She was a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas. Patti spent nearly her entire career in Grand Junction at the Daily Sentinel. She found her true calling as a sports reporter, particularly covering high school and college athletics. She brought more than a box score to her stories. She had a unique way of telling more than just the story on the field. Patti was able to capture the essence of not just the game itself, but the people in the game and what was important to them. She received several awards and accolades throughout her career.

Patti is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her sister, Kathy Arnold and her family Jennifer Cachero and David; Their children Shelby Nowell, Austin Nowell and Ashley, and Zachery Nowell and Stacia. Her brother Bob Arnold and his wife, Geri and their family, Ashley Gerla and Rick; Brian Arnold and Lindzy, and their daughter Evalyn. Her brother, Scott Arnold and his wife, Sandy and their family, Kaitlyn Langhart and Brock, their daughter Lacey; Garrett Arnold; and her beloved dog Rookie.

Patti influenced many journalists, athletes, coaches and friends. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

On Saturday November 1, 2025, the family will receive friends at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30 PM at Browns Funeral Services, 904 N 7th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81501.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the CMU Foundation, or the Roice-Hurst Humane Society in her memory.

Patti filled the room with laughter, kindness, and love – she will be remembered in our hearts forever.
