Margarett Louise Esparza

October 3, 1942 — August 3, 2023

Margarett Louise Esparza, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on August 3, 2023 at the age of 80.

Margarett was born to Michael and Catherine Scharwath in Rockford, Illinois on October 3, 1942.  She lived most of her childhood in Nebraska and then moved to the Denver area with her parents and sister, JoNell. Through a mutual friend, Margarett met her husband, Daniel, and they married on December 9, 1971 and had five children: Leslie, Sonja, Andrew, Daniel and Donovan.

As a longtime resident of Grand Junction, CO she wore many hats.  In addition to her role of a loving wife and mother, Margarett worked over the years as a Carhop at Donald’s Drive In, an Operator Supervisor for Mountain Bell, a bus driver for School District 51, a District Manager for the Daily Sentinel and owned her own business, Ceramic Arts by Maggie. She enjoyed each and every adventure in her work life, but was most proud of her awards at craft fairs for her ceramics.

Margarett loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family as well as gardening, canning and working in her flower garden. Since she had a passion for cooking, Margarett loved to travel to New Mexico in the fall for green chili, and Juarez, Mexico for a variety of spices.

Margarett was an artist from the beginning as her favorite past time was drawing horses, which then became a love for making kitchenware, dragons, and various Christmas Nativity sets in her ceramics business.  She was well known for her ceramics amongst the community selling at various downtown businesses, Mesa Mall and local craft fairs.

In addition to the many things that Margarett loved doing, she had a special love for each one of her dogs, which were many over the years, but most of all spending time with her German Shepherd, Sonny Boy.

Margarett was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Daniel Joseph Esparza, Sr. and her parents: Michael and Catherine Scharwath. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, JoNell Conner; her daughters: Leslie (Lee) Hyde, and Sonja Esparza; her sons: Andrew (JoAnne) Esparza, Daniel Esparza, Jr., and Donovan Esparza. Margarett also has 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

At Margaretts’ request, no service will be held.  Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
