Lora L Hughes

Lora Lee Hughes, age 73, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2025.

She was born on November 27, 1951, in Monte Vista, CO to Loren and Helen Muller. Lora had two younger siblings, sister Connie and brother Gary. Lora grew up in Monte Vista where she attended school and graduated as the valedictorian of her class in 1969.

Lora was a dedicated entrepreneur, caregiver, and community leader. For 21 years, she co-owned and operated Rainbow Grocery in South Fork, CO. Beyond her business, she was deeply involved in the life of the town, playing a pivotal role in the incorporation of South Fork and contributing to its lasting growth. During those years, Lora also served as a volunteer EMT for 15 years, offering compassionate care and emergency support to her community.

After leaving South Fork, Lora worked for five years with the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Alamosa, CO, continuing her lifelong commitment to service.

In her later years in Grand Junction, CO, Lora remained active in her church and community. She devoted time to volunteer work at the Clifton Christian Church and Celebrate Recovery. Lora also led a life group studying the bible, providing encouragement and wisdom to those around her. Additionally, she found joy in creating CDs and announcements for the church’s elderly group, helping them stay connected and engaged with weekly activities and events.

Lora is survived by her sister Connie Huber and beloved children and their families: Aaron (son) and Jingwei Fleming; Abigail (daughter) and Austin Bradford; and Andrea (daughter) and Greg Taillacq. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Taylor Taillacq, Madison Taillacq, Avery Bradford, Pepper Fleming, and Milo Fleming.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Baby Boy; her parents, Loren and Helen Muller; her husband, Raymond Hughes; and brother Gary Muller.

A celebration of life service will be held on June 14th at 3 pm at the Palisade Christian Church in Palisade, CO.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Hospice in Lora Hughes’ memory.

Lora will be remembered for her deep faith, generous heart, and the unwavering love she shared with family, friends, and every community she called home.
