It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Laree Lovan, who passed away on February 3, 2026, in Rifle, Colorado, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 70 years old. Laree was born on January 10, 1956, in New Jersey to Thomas Mario Sabellico and Marilyn Jardine Birch. Following the divorce of her parents, Laree, her older sister, Riki, and their mother moved to Utah, where Marilyn later met Earl Anderson. After Marilyn and Earl were married, they welcomed two sons, Nolan and Kevin. The family later made their home in Idaho's Treasure Valley, primarily in the Meridian and Boise areas. Laree attended Meridian schools and graduated from Meridian High School in 1974. After graduation, she married Brent Rose, who was serving in the United States military. As a military wife, Laree traveled abroad and spent time in places such as Turkey. Together, she and Brent had two children, James and Cheryl. Their marriage ended after ten years. In 1986, she entered into a brief marriage with Glenn Zuwalt. In August of 1990, Laree and Rick Lovan found each other again at Rick's 20-year class reunion. Sometimes life gives people a second chance, and for them, that reunion became the beginning of the life they were meant to share. They were married on August 10, 1991, bringing their families together. Rick brought his sons, Rick and Wally, and together they built a life centered on love, family, and friendship, spending more than three decades side by side. In 2007, they made their home in Rifle, Colorado. Together they became active members of Elks Lodge 2195, where they built lasting friendships and became part of a community they loved. Laree believed in giving her time to others. She proudly served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, creating lasting memories and encouraging young Scouts as they learned, grew, and enjoyed the outdoors. Later, she found great joy working at Rifle Creek Golf Course, where she served as President of the Ladies Association for the Tuesday and Wednesday Day Leagues. She loved golf, hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors. Whether she was volunteering, organizing an event, or simply lending a helping hand, Laree had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome. More than any hobby, though, she loved simply being with Rick. Whether they were traveling, spending time with friends, or enjoying a quiet day together, they were happiest in each other's company. They weren't just husband and wife—they were best friends. If there is one thing those who knew Laree will never forget, it is her laugh. It was genuine, contagious, and could brighten even the hardest day. She had a warm heart, an easy smile, and a way of making everyone feel like family. She was deeply loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. Her kindness, laughter, and generous heart will be missed more than words can express. Laree is survived by her loving husband, Rick Lovan; her beloved children; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her older sister, Riki; and her brothers, Nolan and Kevin.
