In Loving Memory of Margie Lavonne Grimes
Margie Lavonne Grimes, age 87, passed away on July 10, 2026, following a courageous battle with urothelial and metastatic breast cancer. Born on June 17, 1939, to Arza and Amanda Marie Mills, Margie was the last surviving of her parents' nine children, carrying with her the history and heart of her family.
In her younger years, Margie spent a decade working in the mining industry at the Brooklyn Mine and Mayflower Mill in Silverton, Colorado. She held a deep, lifelong fascination and love for the industry, and she always delighted in sharing her vivid mining stories with family and friends. Later in life, she brought her strong work ethic and warm spirit to the retail sector, working as a merchandise coordinator and a welcoming door greeter.
Margie was a woman of incredible resourcefulness, grit, and grace. She possessed a unique gift for "making something out of nothing" and navigating through life's most difficult seasons—a powerful legacy of strength and resilience that she proudly passed down through the generations. She also had a wonderful creative side, using her talents to craft beautiful floral arrangements that brought joy and comfort to her family, friends, and church community.
Above all else, Margie’s heart belonged to her family. She always placed her loved ones first, offering unwavering support during tough times and stepping up to help no matter the need. She was a deeply devoted mother and grandmother, leaving behind a family who will forever cherish her selflessness and boundless love.
Margie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arza and Amanda Marie Mills; her siblings, Lewis Mills, Robert Mills, Harold Mills, Hildred Fogg, Leroy Mills, Orville Mills, and Judy Hammer; and her sons-in-law, Michael Hunter and Boyd Cone.
Her remarkable legacy lives on through her three daughters: Marie Cone, JoAnn Hunter, and Lenna (Ron) Key. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Margie will be profoundly missed, but her stories, her strength, and her fierce love for her family will endure for generations to come.
