Kirby Shaun Burchett, 67, of Grand Junction, Colorado, unexpectedly passed away on May 25, 2025. Born December 18, 1958, in Rangely, Colorado, he was the son of the late Jack Burchett and Marilyn Burchett.
Kirby graduated from Rangely High School in 1977 then attended Mesa State College before embarking on his career path in the Oil and Gas Industry. In June 1979 he started working for Colorado Well Service/Key Energy where he became well respected in the industry. After 21 years of dedication, he followed on a new journey with Weatherford Completion Systems until 2004 when he started his own consulting business. He was a consultant for Encana Oil & Gas over the next few years before Encana hired him directly for his knowledge, experience and dedication in 2007. Over the next 13 years, he continued developing his expertise in the industry, transitioning from work over rigs to drilling rigs in multiple states until Ovintiv Services, Inc took over Encana in 2020. Over the next few years, he explored other industries before his passion led him back to the oil and gas industry with the State of Colorado in December of 2022 as a Compliance Specialist. He was very passionate about his career, the industry and the connections he made over the 46 years instilling the value of hard work, reliability and leadership in his daughters and grandchildren.
He enjoyed being outdoors and had a true love for nature, always being the first to point out wildlife in the distance. His true passion in life was with his family fishing, four wheeling, hunting, shooting, camping and enjoying adventures in Alaksa. He was dedicated to his family always being the first to help and looking forward to the simple backyard barbeque gathering family together. He was a memorable man full of integrity who loved to share his knowledge with others, full of love and we’re all better having experienced his kindness and humanity.
Kirby is survived by his wife of 45 years Kayleen, brother Randy Burchett, daughters Shaylynn Berkley (Brandon) and Ashlely Hamm-Burchett, grandchildren Dylan Kesterson, Emily Kesterson, Landon Hamm and great granddaughter Payton.
Following his wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
