Kenneth Erling Stoud Platou

October 11, 1951 — August 27, 2024

Kenneth Erling Stoud Platou, 72, passed away Tuesday morning August 27, 2024 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was born on October 11, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in Edina, Minnesota and graduated from Edina High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in University Studies from the University of Utah. He went on to receive his Master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Minnesota.

Ken’s career landed him in some of the most beautiful parts of the country including Franklin, Mass., Whitefish, MT., Montrose, CO., and Mt. Shasta, CA. For many years Ken was an active member of The Rotary Club and Western Colorado Hospital Association. Ken and his wife, Becky, retired in Grand Junction, CO. so he could be close to the desert and the mountains, both of which he loved deeply.

Ken cherished nature and the outdoors. His passions included skiing, boating, hiking, camping, and reading. Ken was appointed the name “Cap’n Kenny” for his masterful command of the family boat “The Platounic”. He had a knack for telling stories filled with wit, wisdom, and smothered with sarcasm. He was a very proud Norwegian and wouldn’t let you forget it. Ken had the ability to always see the best in a situation or individual, a gift he learned from his father. Ken valued his family above all else. Ken was a loving and giving father and grandfather. Ken was a loving and devoted husband.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Platou. Ken is survived by Becky Platou (wife of 40 years), Adriane Platou (daughter), Erik (Cristine) Platou (son), Kalani (granddaughter) and Collin (grandson), Sisters; Pepper (Jay) Kenney, Patsy (Bruce) Garlinghouse and Nancy (Jeff) Steinke and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ken heard the desert calling and he needed to go…
