Kathey I Kerns

Kathey Irene Kerns , age 66, passed away on Friday, October 17th, 2025. She was born on August 15th, 1959, in Grand Junction, Colorado, the daughter of the late William and Mildred Brown. 

Kathey enjoyed her family deeply and found great joy in the companionship of her dogs, her cattle cat, participating in dog agility and in earlier years, riding horses. She was known for her strong work ethic and dedication throughout her life, spending many years contributing her talents at Frederic Printing, St. Mary’s Hospital, Community Hospital, and Murdoch’s. 

Beyond her work, Kathey will be remembered for her kindness and steadfast spirit. She valued hard work, honesty, and compassion. Qualities she instilled in her children and those fortunate enough to know her. Kathey had a generous heart and a quiet strength that inspired others. She faced life’s challenges with courage and found joy in simple moments with loved ones.

Kathey’s faith was an important part of her life, and she found peace in her relationship with God. Her love, laughter, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is gone from our sight, she will never be forgotten. The family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who passed before her. 

Kathey was preceded in death by her parents, William Irwin Brown and Mildred Mae Brown, and her sisters Linda Schmidt, Janette Pacheco, and Sharon Pacheco. She is survived by her husband, Norman Scawthorn; her children, Jeremy Kerns (Shelly Kerns) of LaFollette, Tennessee, and Amy Sanchez (Luis Sanchez) of Denver, Colorado; her grandchildren, Tyler Kerns, Mayela Sanchez, Tayes Sanchez, and Brayzen Sanchez; and her sisters, Brenda Brown and Judy Smith. 

A memorial service will be held on October 25th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at New Haven Pentecostal Holiness Church, 426 Kluge Ave, Palisade, CO 81526.
