Juan Medrano

May 16, 1953 — September 4, 2016

Juan David Medrano, May 16, 1953 – September 4, 2016, was welcomed lovingly into heaven by his parents, Angel and Maria Medrano, and nephew, Alfredo Leon, early Saturday morning. He passed peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital while his loving family surrounded him. Although Juan was born in Zacatecas Mexico, he immigrated to the United States in 1970. He embraced this country fervently and was very proud to call himself an American. He lived in California for many years before moving to Colorado. It was there that he met the woman who would eventually become his wife and life partner, Maria Consuelo Oliva, and in his unique, straight-forward and no BS way, pursued his “China” until they got married. He leaves behind his wife Consuelo (Chelo), his three sons, Miguel (Mickey Mouse), Gerardo (Lalo), and Juan (Juanillo), as well as his beloved grandson Miguel Ángel (Kiki Gavilan), and an adoring family who will miss him deeply. Juan was a social man who loved spending his spare time talking and joking around with his family and friends. He would spend his days driving around Grand Junction visiting his sisters, brother, uncle, nephews and nieces and entertaining them with his stories. He was an avid New England Patriots fan. He loved animals, but was particularly fond of horses, and during the years he lived in California, could often be found at the Santa Anita Park, betting on the races. Because Juan could be a bit of a grouch, he couldn’t understand why he had so many friends and family who loved him dearly. The reasons were plentiful. He was an intelligent man who loved sharing his knowledge with those around him; he was also a selfless man who wouldn’t think twice about giving away anything and all he had to a person in need. Most of all, he was a kind and pure soul, who in his very singular and reserved way loved his family dearly and passionately. His departure leaves an enormous hole in the souls of his entire family. Our grumpy Juan Medrano will be greatly missed. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 8th at 9 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction, CO
