John Richard “Dick” Clemmer, age 92, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, following a
brief illness.
Born July 1, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Roland and Belle Clemmer.
Dick graduated from Ruskin High School in Kansas City, in 1949. He was a US Army veteran,
having served as a Private E-2 in the heavy tank, 30th Infantry. Dick owned and managed fullservice
gas stations in California, Missouri, and Colorado for 45 years. When he retired, he and
his wife Lucy, moved to Collbran, CO where they lived for 10 years before relocating to Grand
Junction, CO.
Dick was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO and was a
member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Grand Junction, CO.
He enjoyed participating in school sports as a young man and loved watching football and
baseball later in life. He also loved watching “old cowboy” movies on TV. Traveling, boating,
fishing, camping, and playing cards were also some of his favorite pastimes. Dick was an
amazing, funny, kind man with a contagious laugh and a warm heart. He loved his life and his
family and was a devoted husband and a wonderful father and grandfather.
Dick is survived by the love of his life, his wife Lucy, daughter Alice (Blake) Elwood,
Broomfield, CO, son Tyler (Kimberly) Clemmer, Grand Junction, CO, daughter Tracy (Bruce)
Pestana, Grand Junction, CO, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lutheran
Church of the Messiah, 840 N. 11th Street, Grand Junction, CO.
