JoEllen Wilkie

May 13, 1949 — September 19, 2023

Joellen “Joey” (Eagar) Wilkie of Loma Colorado passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones. Joey was born in the British West Indies to Joseph and Ellen Eagar where her father was stationed by the US Navy. The family lived in many different states while her father served in the Navy. After her father’s discharge from the Navy, he bought the Gambles Store in Fruita Colorado where Joey met Jim Wilkie when she was in Junior High School. After a couple of years her parents moved the family to California where Joey graduated High School. After graduation she went traveling until she settled in Jackson Wyoming. This is where she started her lifelong career in Histology. When her boys wanted different schooling, they moved to upstate New York where her oldest son graduated High School, then she moved with her youngest to Washington State. After her youngest finished schooling, thirty-six years after losing contact with Jim, Joey searched for and found him, married him, moved back to Colorado, adopted four of Jim’s grandchildren, had a custom home built in Loma Colorado and lived the dream. They hosted many foreign exchange students, sometimes more than one a year. She was known for throwing elaborate holiday parties.

Joey is survived by her husband Jim Wilkie (Loma, Colorado); brother Sy (Ginny) Eagar (Helena, Montana); sons Joseph “Boots” (Faith) Allen, granddaughter Josie (Victor, Idaho), Richard (Ann) Allen (Seattle, Washington); adopted grandchildren James, Alma, Taylor, Sam; Jim’s children Dawn Wilkie (Grand Junction, Colorado), Robert-deceased (Michele) Wilkie (Mack, Colorado), Marlin Wilkie (Stacie Morlang) (Loma, Colorado), Jamie (Jason) Jacobs (Loma, Colorado) and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Joey will be missed more than we ever knew. A celebration of life will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Judes Childrens Hospital in Joey's name.
