Jimmy Gail Godby

October 13, 1946 — January 28, 2024

Jimmy Gail Godby age 77 passed from this earthly life on 1/28/2024 at his home in Grand Junction following a long illness.

He was born October 13, 1946, in Lubbock Texas to Billie Jean and Gail Eddington Godby Jr.  Jim was predeceased by both parents.

After graduating from Lubbock High School in 1965 Jim went on to Texas Tech University earning his Electrical Engineering Degree.   After attending his 50-year high school reunion he was active in Locomotion, an online site from which he stayed in touch with many of his former high school classmates.

Jim was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone in Dallas in the early 1970’s.  He remained with the Bell system as they transitioned to US West then Qwest, taking a 3-year rotational to Bell Communication Research in Morristown, NJ during that time.  He held several positions during his 30 years within various companies.  Once he retired, he worked as a consultant with Lucent, Tyco, and his own company Telecom Power.

As a member of First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction Jim was a member of the Men’s Bible Study Group and two handbell groups.

Fond of motorcycle riding, camping, and fishing in the mountains of Colorado, especially in the Silverton and Lake City area. Jimmy spent much time after retirement at his camp at Campground of the Rockies near Fairplay, CO.    From there he was close to many places where he could participate in various mountain sports.  Visiting Durango and the Bar D Chuckwagon Suppers, listening to the Bar D Wranglers as they entertained with their cowboy music was certainly one of his favorite trips.   Jimmy had a great eye for photography, and he delighted in sharing his photos and memories.  In his younger years Jimmy loved to Ski and travel with his family.

Jimmy was always the outgoing jokester, quick-witted, and life of the party. He was in his element pulling on his boots and hat and mounting his mighty steed (motorcycle) and later in life his Jeep, riding the trails of the San Juan mountains with his brothers.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Jean Goble, Gail Eddington Godby Jr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Terri Lynne Godby, sister Sandra Hill, brother Robert (Amy) Goble, sons Tyler (Juliet) Godby, Tanner Godby, and Blaine (Amber) Hollander, grandchildren Thomas (Krista) Godby, Trinity (Hanna) Godby, Zachary VanderWilt, and Victoria Godby, and great granddaughter Charlotte Godby.
