Jerald Jack Sowers Sr

Jerald “Jack” Sowers, Sr., 78, of Rifle, Colorado passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 28, 2024.
 
 Jack was born in Lafayette, Indiana on June 9, 1945 to Harold and Frances Sowers. Jack and his twin sister, Jerry, were the youngest of five children. Jack joined the U.S. Army in 1963, just shy of his 18th birthday. He proudly served until he was honorably discharged in 1966.
 
 Jack enjoyed fishing, crosswords and sewing. He enjoyed making quilts out of blue jeans and gifting them to family and friends. Jack took pride in his homemade noodles that he loved to make from scratch. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and his beloved cat, Maci, who he attributed to saving his life after she woke him during a respiratory event.
 
 After struggling for many years with alcoholism, Jack was able celebrate 21 years of sobriety on May 18, 2023. He considered his sobriety one of his greatest achievements. He used his challenges and adversities with alcoholism to help others who struggled with the same addiction. Jack touched many lives and made many friends along the way. He will be remembered for his quick-witted sense of humor. He was truly one of a kind.
 
 Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Jerry; his brother, Glen, and  sisters, Susie and Dorothy.
 
 Jack is survived by two sons, James Sowers, and Jack Sowers, Jr., and three daughters, Christina Krause, Dawn Doyle (Bernie), and Shiloh Mowen (Corey). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
 Jack’s family would like to thank his fellow AA friends for your love and support throughout the years. You were a big part of his sobriety and he  expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help others along his recovery journey. We would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff at the Veteran’s Care Center in Rifle, along with Hope West Hospice and Ferris Hospice Care Center for the extraordinary love and care that you all gave to our father, Jack.
 
 The family invites you to A Celebration of Jack’s Life that will be held at New Life Fellowship Church in Rifle, Colorado on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00a.m. Military Honors will take place. A reception will follow.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack’s honor to your favorite charity, or any Alcoholic’s Anonymous chapter.
