Janet Sydney Vigil

        Janet Sydney Vigil, age 66, fought a courageous battle with cancer until the very end. On June 22, 2023, just two dyas before her birthday, she passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family.  

         Born June 24, 1956, in Fruita, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late John F. Marquez and Geneva Valencia. Janet grew up on the farm in Fruita, running around with her many cousins and siblings. She graduated in 1974 from Fruita Monument High School and soon after married the love of her life Fred B. Vigil. Together they had two children and raised their two nephews as if they were their own. They were just two years shy of their 50th wedding anniversary at the time of her passing.

          Janet was a bank teller for most of her life but was most known for her amazing and delicious cakes. Always the life of the party, Janet enjoyed Elvis music, margaritas, dancing, adventures, traveling, fishing, golfing, bowling and riding her dirt bike in her younger days. She loved cooking for family and friends, always making sure everyone was taken care of.

       Janet valued her family dearly. She loved her grandkids and great-grandkids beyond measure, spending time with them was her greatest joy.

       Janet was preceded inn death by her parents John F. Marquez and Geneva Valencia. Two brothers, Joe Marquez and Frank Marquez, two sisters, Veronica Flores and Monica Bustillos.

        Janet is survived by her loving husband, Fred B. Vigil, Son, Ben (Tonya) Vigil, daughter, Lisa (Joey) Gant, bonus sons, Miguel Chavarria and Lito Chavarria, her sister Victoria Lawley (Bill Haag), ten grandchildren, Brandon Vigil, Gabrielle Vigil, Shantel Archuleta, Mozes Archuleta, Cecelia Vigil, Alexia Lewis, Jasmine Cook, Emily Gant, Ethan Gant and Tyler Gant, and five great-grandchildren, Sergio, Samaiya, Sydney, Sariah and Malakai.

     Services will be July 1, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 230 N. Third St. Grand Junction,CO,81501. Rosary at 9:00 am and Mass at 10:00 am.
