Jack Rollaine

June 23, 1926 — May 18, 2025

Jack Rollaine, known fondly as Grandad, Pookie, Daddy Jack, and Grandy, passed away on May 18, 2025, in Grand Junction, Colorado, at the age of 98. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Jack lived a life distinguished by quiet strength, devotion, and deep love.

Born on June 23, 1926, Jack's early life was marked by resilience and determination. Growing up as an orphan, he took the remarkable step of naming himself, forging an identity rooted in strength and independence. That spirit of resilience would define him throughout his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in Southeast Asia.

After the war, while in California, Jack met the love of his life, Frances. Their first date — a scooter ride on Fran’s scooter — sparked a bond that would last more than 77 years. They were married on Christmas Eve, 1947, celebrating with Chinese food, a tradition that would become a treasured part of the family’s holiday every year.

Jack built his life and career in Grand Junction as a talented jeweler and watchmaker. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, where he found faith and community. Known for his precision, work ethic, and humility, Jack was admired not only for his craftsmanship but for his character.

Jack took immense pride in his independence — mowing his lawn and shoveling his driveway well into his nineties. His love for Fran was unwavering; he was always by her side, caring for her with tenderness and devotion until her passing. Despite being hard of hearing, his frequent "Whatcha say, Fran?" became a favorite family phrase.

He was a storyteller, sharing vivid tales from his time in the Navy, and loved visiting with fellow veterans at the VA. He passed on his love for dancing, teaching his grandchildren how to jitterbug, and enjoyed political conversations, birthday dinners at Dos Hombres, and always being present for his family.

Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Fran, his son Mark, and great-grandson Tristan. He is survived by his son David; daughter-in-law Katherine; grandchildren Chelsea, Vee, and Rosalind; and great-grandchildren Jaxon and Everlee.

Jack’s life was one of deep love, faith, and enduring devotion. His legacy lives on in the traditions he started, the stories he told, and the generations of family who will continue to carry his spirit forward.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12th, at 3:00 PM, at the VA Memorial Cemetery, 2830 Riverside Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s honor may be made to a veteran’s organization of your choice.
