Helen Louise Abernathy, age 89, died March 24, 2024 following a sudden illness.
Helen was born November 27, 1934 in Forrest, LA. She was the daughter of the late Moody and Estelle Harris.
Since she got married before she graduated high school, she made it a private goal to have her diploma before the last of her five children finished school. She did just that in 1983 scoring college level in many courses. She attributed much of this success to reading the Awake magazine.
Helen was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She made her dedication in May of 1954. She served faithfully for nearly 70 years and was an inspiration to so many. She loved reading her bible and other bible-based literature to increase her knowledge of her God Jehovah and his Son Jesus Christ. She faithfully shared this knowledge until her passing.
She was an avid reader, loved quilting, playing games, passing on family recipes and traditions to her family.
A word that inevitably comes to mind when people speak of Helen is grace. She loved deeply and cared for others always as if they were her own. She was so fun loving and loved to laugh. Her laughter and beautiful smile could light up any room.
Helen was proceeded in death by her parents Moody & Estelle Harris, her sister Zelma Allen, her brother Robert Harris and her oldest son Sonny Abernathy.
Helen is survived by her children Patti (Al) Brewington, Melodye Johnston, Cy (Tracy) Abernathy, and Traci (Dexter) Hutchins. She had 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. There are also a host of nieces and nephews as well. She counted among her many blessings the lifelong friendships made within Jehovah’s organization that filled her life with so much love and joy.
In Helen’s words, “See You in Paradise”. So until then…
