Hans Bernard Sebelin, AKA Hans Babe, age 64, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on June 7th, 2023 after suffering a stroke.
Hans was born on May 15th, 1959 to Hans Julius Hermann Sebelin and Anita Elisabeth Arning in Trier, Germany.
After Hans graduated from culinary school, he went on to support his parents’ business before kickstarting his 40 year career as an executive chef around the world.
His career took him to Adelaide, Australia and Shanghai, China before moving to Taiwan and opening the Taipei Four Seasons Hotel as the executive chef as well as working at the Grand Hyatt. Hans emigrated to the US in 1999 and worked at the Grand Hyatt in the Atlanta, GA, the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, NM, Hyatt Regency in La Jolla, CA, and Starwood Hotel in Denver, CO.
Hans was a strong, assertive individual and loved lively conversations. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and a good beer with his friends.
Hans is survived by his spouse, Machelle Babe, and his son, Linus Sebelin.
A celebration of life will be held in Grand Junction, CO on June 7th, 2024 (details to follow). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Roice-Hurst Humane Society, an organization Hans felt strongly about.
