George Pruett

George Oliver Pruett, age 94 of Hotchkiss, CO, passed away Sunday, December 7th, 2014 at St.Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. Born May 21, 1920 in Conover, North Carolina, he was the son of the late DeWitt Clinton and Lela Travis Pruett. Following high school graduation, he earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree at the University of North Carolina and Chapel Hill. George was employed as a chemist in the oil industry for many years. George married the love of his life, Rita Elizabeth Burke, a union that lasted 59 years. The couple lived in the same house in Pittsburgh, PA for 55 years. Bette preceded him in death in 2006. In addition to being a hard worker and family man, George was a lifelong avid gardener and cook. Survivors include four children, Peter B. Pruett, Hotchkiss, Colorado, James K. Pruett, Thornton, CO, Pamela B. Bittner, Acton, MA, and Jane Sahr, Akron, O, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
