Fred Robert Nelson

January 4, 1946 — May 6, 2023

Fred was born on January 4th 1946 to Fred and Barbara Nelson in Vancouver Washington. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation he joined The Army National Guard serving 6 years and attaining the rank off Staff Sergeant. He married Kathy Eddy in 1966 and they had two children.

In 1965 Fred began working as a Brakeman/Conductor for the D&RG Railroad. He retired 41 years later with the BNSF Railroad.

With a family history of law enforcement, Fred joined the Grand Junction Police Department as a Reserve Officer while still working on the Railroad. He really enjoyed being a motorcycle officer.

Fred enjoyed reading, camping, motorcycles, four wheelers, restoring cars and racing cars. In his later years he especially enjoyed his three Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his Wife Kathy, Son Duke Nelson, Daughter Billie Jo (Luis) Venegas, Grandson Dylan (Olivia) Nelson, Granddaughter Jessica Nelson, Grandson Jacob Nelson, Great Grandchildren Saylor and Wyatt, and Sister JoAnn Swanson.

A memorial will be held on Monday May 29th @ 2pm at 2872 1/2 B 1/2 Rd Orchard Mesa. Or join us at the Western Colorado Dragway on Sunday May 28th for Fred's one last ride down the track.
