Fred Dice, 70, passed away on November 21, 2025, in New Castle, Colorado. Born on March 7, 1955, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Fred spent his life deeply rooted in the Western Slope community he loved.
Fred’s career was as diverse and hardworking as the man himself. He began by partnering with his father in a trucking company that hauled agricultural goods across the region and custom farming. His mechanical aptitude and love for machinery led him to work as a mechanic and snow cat operator at Ski Sunlight and Silver Creek. But it was at Berthod Motors where Fred found his professional home. For 27 years, he worked under Fred Gerbaz, first repairing farm equipment and later transitioning into sales. If you bought a John Deere tractor in the area over the past few decades, chances are Fred had a hand in it—either under the hood or on the sales floor.
Fred’s passion for the outdoors was evident in every aspect of his life. A lifelong member of both the National Rifle Association and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, he was an avid hunter who cherished time spent in nature. His deep respect for wildlife and conservation reflected his values and connection to the land.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and outdoor pursuits, Fred had a unique appreciation for collecting—particularly money clips and dice—tokens that reflected both his name and personality. These small treasures were symbols of a life lived with curiosity and character.
Fred was a devoted family man. He is survived by his sister Deb Stewart (Jimmy); sons TJ Dice (Laura) and Tyler Dice (Christine); and grandchildren Allie, Koby, Kyle, Kylie, Joe, Gertie, and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Gertie Dice; daughter Carrie SueAnn; and granddaughter Isabella.
Fred’s legacy lives on through those who knew him—through every John Deere tractor that rolls across a field, every story shared around a hunting campfire, and every memory held close by family and friends.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
