Emory White

May 5, 1956 — November 6, 2023

Emory White, 67, passed away November 6, 2023 following complications with a lengthy illness. Emory was born May 5, 1956 in Price Utah to William Edward White and Alta LaRue Oviatt White who resided in Cleveland Utah at the time. As a young child he lived on a farm  before moving to Carbondale Colorado where he completed middle school and graduated high school in 1974. Emory lived in New York for a time before returning to Garfield County and living in Glenwood Springs in 1998. In 2019 he moved to Palisade Colorado.

Emory had a varied career including driving trucks for an oil company, working in a coal mine for Mid Continent 11 years, owning and running a produce delivery business and as a camp host managing a camp ground. When he returned from New York Emory went back to school at CMC receiving his associates degree in IT. Upon completing his degree, he was offered a job in the IT department at Colorado Mountain College. Emory retired from CMC 20 years later in May 2019.

Emory loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his nephew Michael Ray and grandnephew Adrian White. They also enjoyed NASCAR , competing in weekly fantasy picks and 2 trips annually for years to LasVegas NASCAR races. More recently Emory found joy gardening and taking pride in his home, fruit trees, grape vines and beautiful flowers.

Emory was a kind and loving man and his family was very important to him. His grand children were the light of his life. He always had a kind word or phrase to say to strangers. His warmth of heart and spirit drew people to him.

Emory was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Norene Simmonds.

Emory is survived by his wife Alisa Jones Herbertz, brother Mike (Nancy) White, nephew Michael Ray (Anne) White, Nieces: RaeLynne White, Malissa (Marty)Walston, Elena Vaomasima , Anna Simmonds, Jacque Jenkins, Rebecca White,  grand nephew Adrian White, step daughter Heidi (Alfredo) Escalante, and grand children Roxanna Ramirez, Sebastain Escalante, Sophia Escalante, and Camila Escalante.

A celebration of life will be held end of May 2024 at Emoy’s home in Palisade. Please contact Michael Ray or Alisa for more details closer to that date.
