Ed went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2025. Ed was born on September 7, 1945, in Queens, New York. His parents were George and Martha Ehlers. He was the youngest of three children. He had a brother, George and sister, Marion. Ed grew up in Springfield Gardens, New York.
He attended Western Michigan University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Print Management. After graduating, Ed moved back to New York working for a printing company.
Ed enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving four years during the Vietnam War. On December 31, 1969, while in the military, Ed received Jesus into his heart. Ed stated that he started on January 1, 1970, with a New Year, a new life in Jesus, and a new decade. Ed was a sergeant and worked on equipment used by B52 Bombers, KC 135 tankers, and parachute survival equipment. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Ed moved to the New England area working in the printing industry.
In 1975, Ed moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado working for the Navigators, a Christian organization. He met Rae Lyn Whitfield at a Bible study at the Navigators, and they were married on December 18, 1976.
In 1979, they moved to Montrose, Colorado and had two daughters, Dana and Krista (Krissie).
Their marriage ended in 2007.
Over the last few years, Ed enjoyed spending time with his two “precious” daughters, serving at his church, and spending time with his friends at the Residence at Grand Mesa Assisted Living. He was involved in many activities at the Residence, his favorites being Skip-bo and WII bowling. He has been remembered by other residents and staff as a very loving, kind, compassionate person.
Ed is preceded in death by both parents, his brother and sister.
Ed is survived by his two daughters, Dana Ehlers, Krista Ehlers, one sister-in -law, Elizabeth Ehlers, 3 nieces, Laura Prentice, Lisa Laskey and Tina Santos, nephew Craig Gamroth, family and cousins from Germany.
Private services and interment will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado.
