Edith Nelda Gomoke

June 23, 1943 — May 15, 2025

Edie Nelda Gomoke, age 81, passed away on May 15, 2025, after courageously battling her second fight with breast cancer.

She was born on June 23, 1943, in Globe, Arizona, to James Roland Turner and Ruth (Cochran) Turner.

Edie earned her nursing degree from Yavapai College in Prescott, Arizona, in 1972. She went on to serve as a devoted Registered Nurse for over 40 years, working in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Colorado. Her compassionate care touched lives in many areas of medicine, including the ER, OB/GYN, NICU, and floor nursing. Later in her career, she brought that same care into people’s homes through home health nursing until her retirement in 2009. One of her most meaningful positions was at the Grand Junction Regional Center, where she worked for several years.

Edie also gave generously of her time to others. She volunteered at several thrift stores over the years, including the Fruita Thrift Store in Colorado and the Salvation Army in Borger, Texas. For many years, she was a warm and familiar face at the Canyon West Food Bank in Fruita and later continued her service at the Five Loaves Two Fishes Food Pantry upon returning to Colorado.

She was a woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering kindness. Edie was a longtime member of Living Water Baptist Church in Fruita, Colorado, and had recently returned to worship at Loma Community Church. Her hobbies were a reflection of her gentle soul—she found joy in sewing, painting, quilting, crafting, and making jewelry. Wherever she lived, from the Grand Canyon to Death Valley, Globe to Borger, the Guadalupe Mountains to the Colorado National Monument, Edie made each place more beautiful simply by being part of it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Turner; her sisters, Jayme Rau and Drenda Turner; her first husband, Arch Alexander Chaney (d. 2013); and her beloved second husband, Charles Gomoke, whom she married in 2017 and who passed away in 2022.Edie is survived by her loving family: Her daughter Crystal (Jeff) Gomoke and their son Jonathan (Caylee) Gomoke; Her son Arch (Janet) Chaney and their daughters Rebecca Taplin, Erica Riley, and Alexandra Chaney, along with their 12 children; Her son Phillip (Shannon) Chaney and their daughter Nikya (Patrick) and their 5 children, as well as two sons, Sheldon Reynolds and Sean Chaney; Her son David (Naomi) Chaney and their daughters Zola and Naima and their son Aiden.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on June 11, 2025, at Loma Community Church, 1307 Garfield St, Loma, CO 81524.
