Douglas Patrick Michael
Young
Jul 19, 1976 — Oct 16, 2026
Doug Young was born on July 19, 1976, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Dale A. and Sherlene L. Young.
Doug was a quiet, organized, and hardworking man who preferred to stay out of life's drama and focus on what mattered most. He was happiest when he was working on a project, building something, or finding a way to create something unique. He had a natural talent for working with his hands and took great pride in everything he did.
Doug's passion for construction began at just 10 years old when he started working alongside his father and brother at the family business, Young Sons. Throughout his school years, he spent his summers learning the trade from his father, developing the knowledge and work ethic that would shape his future. His family eventually moved to Olathe, Colorado, where Doug attended and graduated from Olathe High School in 1994.
Following high school, Doug attended college while continuing to work and build a life with his loving wife, Michelle. Together, they welcomed their first son, Dale. In 2000, Doug graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Doug went on to build a successful career in construction, working as a superintendent for companies including Shaw Construction, The Neenan Company, Pinkard Construction, and Proset Construction. Throughout his career, he contributed to numerous projects across Colorado, including work in Telluride and Mountain Village, schools in Montrose, Olathe, Alamosa, Creede, Craig, and Telluride, as well as the Grand Junction VA Hospital and Pueblo VA.
Doug took tremendous pride in his work and always had the best interests of his projects and the companies he worked for in mind. He was committed to completing every job on time, within budget, and to the highest standard of quality. His knowledge of construction was remarkable, but what made Doug truly exceptional was his willingness to keep learning. If he didn't know how to do something, he would research it, figure it out, and put that knowledge to work. There was very little Doug couldn't accomplish once he set his mind to it.
While building his career, Doug and Michelle continued growing their family, welcoming their daughter, Megan, in 2000 and their youngest son, Dustin, in 2003. Doug was incredibly proud of his three children. He raised them to be strong, independent, hardworking individuals who could face life's challenges with confidence. He shared his knowledge, skills, and talents with them, teaching them lessons that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Following the loss of his brother in 2022, Doug began to look at life differently. Continuing in construction became difficult, as so much of the work reminded him of the brother he had grown up and worked alongside. His focus shifted toward spending more time with his family and building something of his own. With that goal in mind, Doug started Y&S Customs, a business he hoped would provide lasting opportunities and support for his wife and children.
Doug was never someone who needed recognition or attention. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke louder than anything he could have said. He was always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, or help someone work through a problem, never expecting anything in return.
Doug will be missed more than words can express. His love, guidance, knowledge, and the example he set will continue to live on through his family, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
We find comfort in imagining Doug reunited with his father, Dale, and his brother, Dale W., building something incredible together in Heaven. Though we wish we had more time with him, we will forever cherish the memories, lessons, and love he leaves behind.
Until we meet again, you will always be in our hearts. Forever loved, never forgotten.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Dale A. and Sherlene L. Young, and his brother, Dale W. Young.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Michelle Young; their three children, Dale (Meeka), Megan, and Dustin; and his three sisters, Dalene Woodward, Danna Young, and Dee Ann Hobbs.
A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Brown's Funeral Home.
