Dorothy, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2025. She was born on December 28, 1935, to the late Thomas Ira Jones and Viola Mae (Cowin) Jones in Coleman, Oklahoma, later moving to Texas and then Dove Creek, Colorado, when her mother remarried Paul Lafeyette (Fett) Nixon, who raised her from childhood. She attended school and was a cheerleader in Dove Creek, Colorado. She later went to Mesa State College and received her GED. She married ND Monger on July 6, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married 66 years until his passing and had a combined family of 6 children.
While raising their children, she also worked at the bank in Dove Creek, Tempo Department Store, and Valley Trash in Grand Junction, and was a real-estate agent in Grand Junction and Parker, Colorado. Dorothy was a talented seamstress and sewed her own and children's clothes. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, going to Laughlin, Nevada, flea markets, refinishing furniture, canning, and collecting vintage items. She was hardworking, dedicated, and loved all of her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband ND, her brothers, Earl Jones, Ira Jones, Paul Nixon Jr., and step-sister, Ima Gene Edie. She is survived by her daughters, Rae (Steven) Frank, Deborah (Gale) Kappauf, son Greg (Kathy) Monger, and step-sons Kirk (Linda) Monger, Swany Monger, and Shane (Deana) Monger. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on September 20, 2025, at Brown's Cremation and Funeral Services, 904 N.7th Street, Grand Junction, CO, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dorothy's name to Hope West.
